This new piece was inspired by the murder of Trayvon Martin and the injustice of his killer remaining a free man. Beyond this tragedy/travesty of justice, it was also inspired by the long history of black men and boys who have died unnecessarily in this country. Some at the hands of lynch mobs. Some by violence in our neglected communities. Some who were unarmed and died at the hands of the police like Amadou Diallo and Sean Bell, victims of suspicion and bias. Some of these men and boys death's made national news like Trayvon and Emmett Till. Many remain largely nameless. They all deserve recognition. Our lives are valuable and that value needs to be recognized and respected by this country.

Check out these signed, limited edition, custom wood jigsaw puzzles featuring my Red Iron Lion painting. They were cut with expert precision by master puzzle cutter, Tim St. Peter. These puzzles are made to last and are works of art themselves. Check them out in my etsy store. Two sizes are available, 5x7 and 8x10.

Here's a new portrait of Black Thought, one of my favorite emcees of all time. I originally did this painting last summer, but it didn't feel finished so I reworked it this week. I wanted to really capture the energy of an emcee moving the crowd.

Prints are available in my store.

Over the past year and a half I had the pleasure of creating a community mural with the residents of the Taylor apartments, School One, and Troy Alley Action in Troy, NY. Here's a short documentary that was created by the Sanctuary for Independent Media about the creation of the mural.

I had a great time working on this project. I'm very proud of the School One kids and the work they did. Let's keep making our world more colorful!

This Week in Last Minute Updates: I'm part of two events during the ongoing Mohu Festival. Mohu is a 9 day-long arts festival happening all over Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer and Saratoga counties. Jen Wojtowicz (my favorite artist) and I are featured artists at Bonobo Cafe, 174 Madison Ave, Albany NY. There will be music by talented emcee, Oddy Gato tonight during 1st Friday (which doesn't actually occur on the first friday).

I also have a couple pieces in a group show, The Artists' I, featuring the artists of Black Dimensions in Art, at the New York State Museum on the Fourth Floor Terrace Gallery. The show will be up until this weekend. There will also be a concert by the Empire State Youth Orchestra Jazz Ensemble from 1-2 pm on October 15 (my birthday) in the museum's Adirondack Hall.
